R.I.P. Robin, a tribute to Damian Wayne
It is hard to believe that Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert gave us Damian Wayne nearly seven years ago. I'll admit at first when I heard Batman had a son with Talia al Ghul I was a little skeptical and annoyed with Damian, but this is back when I didn't really have a taste for comics yet and Damian really started to grow on me. His rash and spoiled behavior became very entertaining and left room for the character to grow. Damian only ten years old killed people and even attempted to kill Tim Drake (The Robin before him)
Being raised by murderous assassins and thinking that being Robin was his birthright, you can see why Damian acted the way he did. When Batman died and Dick Grayson took over as Batman, he decided it was his responsibility to train and take care of Damian becoming the new Robin. Of course Dick and Damian never worked together before, and Damian was difficult, not wanting to follow the "no killing" policy, but eventually the two became to this day an iconic team up. Damian grew to both trust and respect Dick, a real brother like relationship.
Even after Bruce came back, Damian and Dick stayed as Batman and Robin while Bruce was also Batman, but went around the world starting Batman Inc. while Dick and Damian were responsible for Gotham.
Damian was a fun interesting character, and while he might be dead now, if you read comics you know that a character never stays dead they always find a way back. I just hope when he does come back it is done correctly and makes a good story. Thanks again Mr. Morrison and Mr. Kubert!

Wait, I'm still like shocked that Batman had a son! And he was a bad boy to boot?
ReplyDeleteIt was very shocking, although there is no set age for these characters having a 10 year old son drastically aged man to a man who might be in his 40's which I was okay with. He was a bad boy a very entertaining one
